Dr. Kevin Sabet, President and CEO of the Foundation for Drug Policy Solutions, released the following statement after the United States House of Representatives’ passage of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act of 2025:
“It’s a great day for everyone who cares about ending America’s opioid crisis. The Foundation for Drug Policy Solutions applauds the House for voting to re-authorize the crucial SUPPORT Act.
“The re-authorization comes at a moment when the opioid crisis in America is still a tremendous danger to public health, but in which some progress has been made—thanks in no small part to the original 2018 bill’s investment in the fight against addiction; it was the single largest Congressional investment in overdose prevention at the time. By emphasizing prevention through education, backing community-based treatment, and expanding access to life-saving medical treatments, the bill has and will continue to strengthen public health across the country.
“FDPS applauds the bipartisan work that made this step toward re-authorization possible and recognizes that while overdose deaths are declining, much remains to be done.
“Successful drug policy must be compassionate and evidence-based. The SUPPORT Act is both.
This bill will increase America’s chances of winning this difficult fight.”
